Facebook Re-enactments (2009) Facebook Re-enactments is a video-performance piece developed and first presented during the 2009 Virtual Residency at Location One. It is based on the residency's artists' names on facebook.
This is how the piece came about: The artists chosen for the Virtual Residency 2.0 at Location One (May 15 - August 15, 2009) were Jessica Curry, Narinda Reeders, Ben Woodeson, and myself.
Responding to facebook's "logic" and "environment", social behavior, and the intrinsic habits of its users - plus personal experiences within facebook such as name misspellings
triggering mix-ups and false links - I was inspired to question online identity once again. (After the high of net art questioning "ID" online in the late 1990s it was interesting to me
that it is still very much a topic). So I searched on these (our) four names - to possibly find out more about my residency mates - and used the "found" identities and images for
each name search as scenarios to be restaged and re-enacted in RL/in front of the camera... Needless to say that some of the returned identities had nothing to do with the artists in the show... Exhibitions of Facebook Re-enactments:
